Who We Are The National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA) leads and coordinates the Australian Government's efforts to support the self-determination and aspirations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We work in genuine partnership with communities to ensure the needs and aspirations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are met through government policies, programs, and services. With over 1500 staff across remote, regional, and urban locations, we influence policy and deliver programs that improve outcomes in areas such as employment, housing, education, health, justice, and food security. The Opportunities The NIAA is establishing a merit pool to fill APS Level 6 & Executive Level 1 vacancies within its Policy and Programs Portfolio that arise within 18 months from the date of initial advertisement. The Policy and Programs Portfolio leads, influences and invests in social, cultural and economic policies and programs that contribute to improving the wellbeing and economic aspirations of First Nations people. It also develops strategies to deliver on the Australian Government's priorities for First Nations people. The Policy and Programs Portfolio is comprised of four groups (divisions) including: Country, Culture & Connection Jobs & Economic Development Social Policy Strategy.
