The Opportunity The Senior Commissioning Engineer – Mechanical Systems will lead the planning, coordination, and execution of testing and commissioning activities for mechanical plant, equipment, and associated control systems on a major rail/metro infrastructure project in Western Sydney. The role ensures mechanical systems operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with contractual, statutory, and operational requirements before handover to operations. Key Responsibilities Develop and manage commissioning strategies, schedules, and procedures for mechanical systems. Coordinate commissioning across mechanical, electrical, control, and civil teams, engaging OEMs and subcontractors. Lead and supervise commissioning of tunnel ventilation, HVAC, hydraulics, lifts, escalators, and fire systems. Oversee functional, integration, performance, and endurance testing in line with approved procedures. Ensure compliance with WHS, rail safety, environmental requirements, TfNSW, and Australian Standards. Conduct risk assessments, HAZOP studies, and safety-in-design workshops. Review and approve test plans, reports, verification records, and handover documentation. Support defect rectification, warranty testing, and client acceptance processes. What We're Looking For Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) with 8–10 years’ commissioning experience on rail/metro/infrastructure projects. Expertise in tunnel ventilation, HVAC, pumps, lifts/escalators, and fire suppression systems. Skilled in integrated control systems, SCADA interface testing, and multidisciplinary commissioning programs. Strong knowledge of Australian Standards, Building Code of Australia, and TfNSW requirements. Desirable: CPEng/eligibility, Sydney Metro or Australian rail project experience, and knowledge of systems assurance, RAMS, and asset handover. Strong leadership, stakeholder coordination, problem-solving, safety, and quality focus. Detail-oriented, proactive, adaptable, and willing to work site and office locations in Western Sydney.
