The role of Chief Executive Officer supports councillors, staff and the community in developing and delivering a clear vision for a vibrant and sustainable Shellharbour region. The CEO will embed a culture of continuous improvement, provide leadership, foster and drive local economic development at every opportunity, and demonstrate a commitment to the Shellharbour region, its people and the future. Functionally, the CEO is responsible for overall leadership, direction and accountability for the operations and functions of Council. This key role drives the development and delivery of Council’s strategic plans, policies and governance frameworks, while ensuring sound financial management. Above all, the CEO is responsible for ensuring Council meets its obligations to the community and delivers on its commitments. Highly developed communication and advocacy skills are essential, as is the ability to build effective partnerships with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholder groups. Familiarity with the Local Government context and relevant legislation is preferable, as is knowledge of the changing social, political, and economic issues facing the local government sector.
