As the Librarian you will work with a small team of library and archive specialists in the development, care, and provision of access to the National Gallery Research Library & Archives. In this role, under the guidance of the Manager, Research Library & Archives, you will be responsible for the Special Collections and Reference Library holdings of the National Gallery's Research Library & Archives, covering First Nations, Australian and international art with strengths aligned to areas of the national art collection. This includes rare and unique materials that document the history and development of the visual arts, both nationally and internationally. You will work with a wide range of internal stakeholders including the Curatorial, Exhibitions, Conservation, Registration, and Learning & Programs teams as well as Australian and international visual arts researchers. This role is part of the Gallery's Artistic Programs Portfolio and reports to the Manager, Research Library & Archives. The key duties of the position include In accordance with the APS 6 work level standards, you will: Administer Research Library & Archives activities in the areas of the Reference Library and Special Collections related to preservation, digitisation, collection development and rationalisation, and public research enquiries and access. Manage and administer Reference Library and Special Collections internal and external services including research and reference enquiries, curatorial support, interlibrary loans, digitisation, and other functions related to the discoverability and access of the Reference Library and Special Collections to internal and external stakeholders. Along with the Archivist, assist the Manager, Research Library & Archives to develop and refine policies, guidelines, workflows, and procedures to support the Gallery's Research Library & Archives. In consultation with the Manager, Research Library & Acquisitions select Special Collections and Reference Library materials to propose for acquisition or deaccession. Undertake all relevant due diligence, stakeholder liaison and documentation required to generate and submit the acquisition or deaccession for consideration and approval. Undertake cataloguing and digitisation of Special Collections and Reference Library materials to meet contemporary library and information management standards to optimise discoverability and access to internal and external stakeholders. In consultation with the Manager, Research Library & Acquisitions manage the physical and digital requirements of the Special Collections and Reference Library holdings including physical and digital access, preservation, revision, and growth. Provide expert advice on professional and technical requirements of the Reference Library and Special Collections to colleagues, Gallery staff, sector peers and external researchers. Provide leadership and supervision of Library Assistants to ensure coverage of relevant library services including rostering, timesheet approvals and workload management. Undertake other duties as required by the Manager, Research Library & Archives including reporting activities.
