Overview Director, Safe and Respectful Communities The UTS DVC Education & Students is recruiting for a Director, Safe and Respectful Communities to lead a dynamic team dedicated to fostering a campus environment where students and staff feel safe, valued, and respected. About the Opportunity As Director, you will provide strategic and operational leadership of the Safe and Respectful Communities (SRC) team, delivering comprehensive services across prevention and education, safety casework, student and staff misconduct, complaints management, and robust data-driven reporting and evaluation. The role also has accountability for UTS’s compliance with the National Code to Prevent and Respond to Gender-Based Violence and related TEQSA expectations, ensuring trauma-informed and survivor-centred practices are embedded across the university. You will also represent UTS in national debates and sector-wide advocacy, contributing to policy development and thought leadership on building safe and respectful cultures. You will play a pivotal role in supporting UTS’s commitment to a culture of safety, inclusion and respect, while collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to drive meaningful cultural change. About You We are seeking a passionate and strategic leader who is enthusiastic about the safety and wellbeing of our students and staff, and who can bring an innovative approach to addressing gender-based violence and its intersections with other forms of discrimination. With examples, please outline how you meet the following four (4) key selection criteria points below: Demonstrated expertise in developing and delivering prevention and education programs addressing safety, respect, and wellbeing Proven senior leadership experience in a complex organisation, preferably in higher education, community services, or related sectors Strong relationship-building skills with diverse stakeholders and interpreting complex policies Knowledge of relevant legislation (National Higher Education Code to Prevent and Respond to Gender-based Violence, National Anti-Racism Framework, Support for Students Policy etc.) In addition, you will demonstrate: Experience leading or overseeing services where gender-based violence incidents are disclosed, including supporting staff wellbeing and managing exposure to complex content. Ability to co-design initiatives with diverse student and staff communities. Policy influence skills and capacity to contribute to national thought leadership.
