Job Description Position Purpose Trainers play a vital role in providing sports trainer care for the AFL program, supporting players through training sessions and games. Trainers enhance athlete performance, prevent injury and ensure optimal recovery. Casual Trainer - AFL Overview Reports to: Head Trainer - AFL Other Key Relationships Internal: AFL Staffing Group AFL Players GIANTS Executive and Management team GIANTS Employees from Consumer, Media, Community, Football, Facilities, Legal and Finance. External: Australian Football League AFL NSW / ACT Roles and Responsibilities Strapping players before sessions and matches. Setting up training supplies and ensuring all requirements for training, games, and travel are met. Providing treatment to players in conjunction with the medical team when required. Managing hydration, preparing and delivering fluids to players during games and training sessions. Desired Skills and Experience Skills and Knowledge Adequate experience in a professional sporting environment. SMA Level 1 Sports Trainer Certification is required. Ability to follow clear verbal and written instructions. Up-to-date knowledge of AFL/W trainers’ guidelines. Strong time management and organisational skills. Capability to collaborate effectively with football department members. Understanding of the AFL/W is ideal, but not essential. Excellent communication skills with both players and staff. Qualification in sports massage therapy will be highly desirable. Training (preseason and in-season) The duties are as follows: Equipment set up and breakdown prior to and following training (set up and cleaning of water bottles, strapping areas etc.). Assist with player preparation (strapping/massage/blister care etc.). On-field triage First Aid and hydration. AFL Home Matches Equipment set up and breakdown prior to and following training (set up and cleaning of water bottles, strapping areas etc.). Assist with player preparation (strapping/massage/blister care etc.). On-field triage First Aid and hydration. Postgame pack up, help pack bench/wash bottles and tubs. Help with post-game acute care/ recovery massage. Assist with property pack up and load into van. AFL Away Matches Assist with player preparation (strapping/massage/blister care etc.) prior to Captain’s Run. Massage the night before game.
