The role Reporting to the Team Leader, Major Crime, you will undertake forensic DNA testing and related duties using well established accredited protocols, standards and instrumentation within a multi-speciality team in accordance with prescribed professional and ethical standards, with limited supervision and increasing professional accountability commensurate with level of analytical experience. In addition, you will actively participate in the activities of the multi-speciality team, including participating in the introduction of new technologies or processes in the work area whilst you develop your scientific knowledge and expertise through active learning within the team, engaging in professional development activities and collaboration and mentoring with junior staff. This process will also be used to fill various other HP4 senior Forensic Biologist positions in Forensic Biology teams that may become available within the next 12 months. The successful person You will have demonstrated: Ability to manage allocated forensic biology casework, including those of a more complex nature including: detection, identification and analysis of materials encountered in casework the interpretation of analytical results, including statistical interpretations where relevant report writing and presentation of opinion evidence in court. Ability, or capacity to rapidly acquire ability, to develop, implement and review policies and procedures relating to a forensic biology laboratory. Proven experience in complying with the legislation, regulations and standards that apply to a forensic laboratory organisation. Knowledge of contemporary forensic sciences professional standards, service delivery requirements and management techniques, including knowledge and understanding of quality systems and national accreditation programs. Preference will be given to those candidates with demonstrated skills in evidence recovery, and interpretation and reporting of results. About us Located at Coopers Plains, Brisbane, FSQ operates specialised Forensic Biology, Forensic Chemistry and Forensic Operations functions that provides forensic services and expert advice to the Queensland Police Service (QPS) and the Coroner's Court of Queensland. Our work at FSQ involves exposure to material related to deaths and criminal offences that may be confronting, due to its graphic and personal nature. Sensitive and professional management of exhibits and information is a critical requirement of this role.
