About us: The Rev. Bill Crews Foundation is one of Sydney’s largest frontline charities, supporting marginalised communities for nearly 40 years. Through services like food provision, healthcare, social welfare and education, we work to address the root causes and impacts of homelessness and poverty. Our Literacy Program has been running for over 20 years across NSW and the NT, helping primary school children who have fallen behind in their reading. By providing targeted, structured literacy support, we help children build confidence, re-engage with learning and reach their potential. About the role: The NSW Literacy Coordinator plays a vital role in ensuring our Literacy Program runs smoothly across multiple schools. This role combines leadership and program oversight with some direct classroom teaching, filling in for Literacy Instructors when needed to keep student learning on track. You’ll guide a passionate team of Literacy Instructors, oversee program delivery and assessment and work closely with schools to make sure children receive the best possible support. While the main focus is program leadership, there is flexibility if you’d like to take on more classroom teaching. The opportunity: We’re searching for a dedicated educator and leader to oversee the NSW Literacy Program. You’ll mentor and support Literacy Instructors, manage program assessments and data and ensure our evidence-based approach delivers strong outcomes for children. This role is about combining your love of teaching with your leadership skills, making a difference not just to individual students, but to the whole program. What you will do: Provide leadership, guidance, and mentoring to Literacy Instructors across multiple schools. Step into the classroom as needed, delivering literacy sessions to small groups of students (Years 2–6) when filling gaps in Instructor coverage. Coordinate student testing, data collection, and reporting on program outcomes. Build strong partnerships with school principals, teachers, and families. Organise end-of-term graduations, parent information sessions, and program resources. Ensure compliance, quality standards, and best practice instructional approaches are maintained. What you will have: Bachelor of Education (Primary) or equivalent qualification. Strong experience in literacy instruction, ideally with structured/phonics-based approaches. Experience mentoring, coaching, or supervising staff. Excellent organisational and communication skills. Ability to build positive relationships with children, schools, and diverse communities. Current Working With Children Check, Police Check, First Aid Certificate and driver’s licence. Why join us: At the Rev. Bill Crews Foundation, we look after our team as much as we look after the community: Ongoing professional development opportunities. Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for personal wellbeing. Not-for-Profit Salary Packaging benefits (up to $15,900 tax-free!). Access to our Health and Wellbeing Program (WHEREFIT). Work in a collaborative, mission-driven environment where your skills create lasting change. Ready to apply?
