The Legal and Audit Division in the Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA) has multiple opportunities for Assistant Directors (EL1) to join the Reviews and Appeals team. The Reviews and Appeals Team , in the Dispute Resolution Branch, is a key function within the department which bolsters the trust and confidence of the veteran community by undertaking and facilitating the review of compensation decisions under DVA's legislation. The section also supports the primary claims processing areas by providing critical insights and feedback on policy, procedural, and operational matters which could lead to improved primary decisions. The section is built on expert knowledge and best practice and plays a vital role in ensuring the veteran community is able to access their legal entitlements as well as assisting the primary claims areas with the important work they do. The EL1 Assistant Directors in the Reviews and Appeals Team will work on a range of complex and interesting matters with friendly and collaborative colleagues. You will be supported to develop a highly sought after and transferable skill set. The key duties of the position include Contribute to the strategic direction of the section and provide input into operational, compliance, and general management issues. Provide direction to the team and direct staff through mentoring, coaching, and performance management. Identify and contribute to continuous business improvement and lead changes in a constructive and collaborative manner. Provide leadership across the Department, particularly in adapting to rapidly changing circumstances and provide high level advice to the DVA senior executive and as required, to the Minister and Commissions. Develop and manage key strategic relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders, including representing the Department Review complex and sensitive issues relating to stakeholders including working directly with veterans/clients/representatives and negotiating positive outcomes. Represent Commissions at Veterans' Review Board (VRB) conferences and hearings.
