Defence Member & Family Support (DMFS) is recruiting to the role of Family Liaison Officer (FLO) for our Canberra Office! The FLO will help Defence families connect and engage with both the Defence and wider community through facilitating opportunities such as: Welcome Events. Ceremonies & Functions. Programs. Info Sessions. The FLO is involved in all aspects of events management including, design and development of the event, online ticket allocation, arranging catering and set up/pack up of info stands at a range of different venues across the region. The FLO will work as part of a dynamic and multidisciplinary team and engage actively with stakeholders such as Defence Command teams, Ex Service Organisations, local community centres and other services that offer support to Defence Families. About our Team Defence Member and Family Support Branch (DMFS), Directorate of Regional Engagement offers a broad range of programs/services to help Commanders, Australian Defence Force members and their families manage the military way of life. DMFS supports Defence families' self-reliance and increases the capacity of the wider community to understand and support the needs of Defence families. The Family Liaison Officer (FLO) position will form part of a team that consists of Defence Social Workers, Military Support Officers, an Educational Liaison Officer, and Area Manager. We work collaboratively to provide support, guidance and advice to Commanders, referrals to external agencies, information on local services, education advice and general information on Defence matters. Our team brings together different backgrounds, experiences and talents. We value diverse perspectives and work hard to deliver an experience that makes a real difference to our customer base. Work outside of standard hours is required on occasion. Our Ideal Candidate We are looking for a self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environment. Our ideal candidate will have activity/event planning skills and be able to actively promote Defence Family Engagement opportunities. Capacity to assist with set up and pack up of events, including ability to lift, push or pull boxes, materials or equipment is required. Highly developed communication skills are necessary; we need a 'People Person'! Our candidate will have the confidence to approach unfamiliar situations and build strong working relationships with our stakeholders. Proficiency with technology is required; you will be working with the Microsoft Office suite and other software/systems. You will be comfortable learning new digital tools and platforms. The candidate must be able to prioritise; work independently; and demonstrate an understanding of confidentiality. Our ideal candidate will be team orientated and be willing and able to work outside of standard business hours or weekends when the need arises.
