Job Description Position Title: Senior Infrastructure Engineer Employment Type: Approximate 12-month contract with potential for extension Location: Canberra, ACT Hourly Pay Rate: Negotiable depending on experience Security Clearance/Requirements: Must be able to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting 1 clearance Working Arrangements: Onsite with potential flexible working arrangements ABOUT THE ROLE We are seeking an experienced Senior Infrastructure Engineer to provide leadership in the design, management, and maintenance of ICT infrastructure supporting digital services. This role involves overseeing internet gateways, large-scale data centre networking, and cloud integration, while ensuring secure and reliable ICT operations. You’ll work closely with service providers and internal stakeholders, contribute to ICT strategy, and act as a mentor to less experienced colleagues. The role requires a high level of technical expertise and the ability to provide strategic advice to senior executives. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Design, implement, and manage infrastructure solutions to meet current and future business requirements. Provide specialist technical advice and support for project builds, testing, and deployment. Develop and maintain technical documentation including design, test, and support plans. Manage patches, disaster recovery solutions, and high availability systems. Partner with other agencies and service providers to strengthen ICT capability. Research emerging technologies and recommend adoption where appropriate. Promote innovation, continuous improvement, and knowledge sharing across teams. SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE Essential: At least 5 years’ experience in the design, management, and maintenance of internet gateway and/or large-scale data centre networking environments. Desirable: Strong technical expertise in F5/Blue Coat Layer 4–7 switching/load balancing and proxy systems. Experience with Cisco Data Centre technologies (ACI, routers, Nexus switches, BGP, OSPF, EIGRP). Proficiency with Palo Alto firewalls and IPS solutions. Experience with VPN technologies, email, and DNS (Infoblox). Cloud integration experience (hybrid and public). Knowledge of government information security policies, including the ASD Information Security Manual and Essential Eight.
