Description Join our Downer Professional Services team and play a key role in delivering complex defence and national security projects that safeguard Australia’s future. Downer Professional Services is comprised of two business units, our Technical, Advisory, and Capability consulting practice and Team Downer, a major service partner to Defence. Together we are a multi-disciplinary advisory and delivery partner of choice for our clients in Defence and National Security. We currently have an opportunity for a Commercial Support Officer to support the delivery of advanced Tactical Data Link capabilities within the Joint Force by leading commercial and procurement activities for a high-impact Defence project based in Canberra. What You’ll Do This role offers a broad scope, with key responsibilities including: ASDEFCON Contract Management : Manage Defence contracts for services, supplies, and software, including changes, deliverables, performance, negotiations, and approvals. Complex Procurement Leadership : Lead procurement activities such as strategy development, tender evaluations, risk assessments, and schedule coordination. Commercial Risk & Compliance Oversight : Identify and manage commercial risks while ensuring compliance with Defence procurement policies and contract requirements. Stakeholder Engagement & Representation : Provide timely commercial advice, coordinate contract meetings, and represent project interests across forums and workshops. Team Development & Documentation : Support development of APS commercial staff and prepare internal briefs, reports, and approval submissions. What You’ll Bring Materiel Procurement & Contract Management Expertise : Extensive experience managing Defence contracts and procurement activities, including ASDEFCON or equivalent documentation. Commercial Risk & Probity Knowledge : Proven ability to identify and manage commercial risks with a strong understanding of Commonwealth probity requirements. Regulatory & Policy Proficiency : In-depth knowledge of procurement regulations and frameworks such as the PGPA Act, CPRs, and related policies. Stakeholder Engagement & Communication : Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience managing diverse stakeholder relationships. Teamwork, Independence & Time Management : Ability to work collaboratively or independently under pressure to meet tight deadlines, supported by relevant qualifications.
