Carey is currently seeking an Outdoor Education Assistant with a passion for sustainable practices and conservation to join the team in Far North Queensland in 2026. The Zero Program Assistant plays an integral role, guiding, mentoring and providing support and leadership to the Year 10 students on the Zero Journey. This position requires a motivated individual with demonstrated experience and/or formal qualifications in Outdoor Education, ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of stakeholders and, skilled in developing and maintaining strong interpersonal relationships. Successful candidates will be provided the opportunity to engage in additional professional development to ensure they have the skills and knowledge to effectively fulfill the position. This role is based in Victoria, with a relocation period to Far North Queensland through Terms 2 & 3. Learn more about the Program: Carey’s Zero program offers Year 10 students a unique and enriching pathway that is a key feature of the annual program. The Zero program offers students an experiential learning experience centred around real world learning and wellbeing. In addition to course work completed within the classroom, the program includes a three-week journey exploring northern Queensland with a focus on people, land and Australian environments. This trip includes the exploration of the Great Barrier Reef, engaging sustainable practices and conservation at the Australian Wildlife Conservancy’s Mt Zero property, and immersing students in Indigenous Australian Culture. The role: Under direction of the Zero Leadership team, guide and support the students participating in the Zero Journey Foster a team culture of support and development within the Program Assistants. Ensure clear communication between Zero Teachers, Zero Mentors and Program Assistants. Support the Zero Teacher and Zero Mentor while on Zero Journey to ensure a safe and efficient program. What do I need to succeed? Recognised Outdoor Education qualifications or equivalent (eg. Experience) in specific and appropriate activities Current manual Drivers Licence A passion for sustainable practices and conservation A proactive team player with attention for detail Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Suite programs Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate with various stakeholders A valid Working with Children Check is a requirement of employment in this position.
