THE ROLE At Kyabra, the Intake and Assessment Worker team is responsible for providing an initial point of contact in relation to community members who present to the organisation for assistance, particularly around domestic and family violence and housing/homelessness. The Intake and Assessment Worker will work in conjunction with the Manager, Coordinator and other team members and be primarily responsible for: Initial needs identification and assessment for community members who contact the organisation for assistance. The provision of relevant information and appropriate referral pathways (either internally or externally), including brief intervention work if/when required. Providing initial support and advocacy to community members, particularly in the housing and homelessness support area as well as Kyabra’ community finance programs. The position involves initial phone-based intake and assessment for community members presenting to the organisation. Some outreach and/or case management will also be required based on operational need. The successful candidate is also required to be available for an on-call roster. REQUIREMENTS A bachelor’s degree in Social Work/Human Services or similar. Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience working in, intake and assessment in the community service sector, including the use of client management systems (e.g. QHIP), as well as experience in the following areas: intake and assessment, domestic and family violence, housing/homelessness, disability, and mental health. Understanding of, and commitment to, the principles of social justice, as well as a demonstrated capacity to work with community members using a strengths-based approach. Cultural competency, including a demonstrated understanding of, and experience with, working with people from CALD backgrounds. Strong communication, interpersonal and organisational skills, including an ability to work autonomously or as part of a team, and adapt to various circumstances as necessary to support community members. Intermediate computer literacy skills, including familiarity with Microsoft 365 Office Suite. A valid open driver’s license (Queensland). A valid Blue Card (Working with Children Check) or eligibility to attain one as well as a willingness to partake in any other required police/history checks as required by the organisation. Desirable Experience working in the housing and homelessness sector. Knowledge of client management systems and the ability to rapidly learn new systems such as QHIP and/or other databases is highly desirable.
