About the Role My client, a reputable accounting/audit firm specialising in SMSF services, is seeking a Senior SMSF Auditor with strong technical expertise, leadership qualities, and a drive for compliance excellence. You’ll be tasked with overseeing audits of self-managed superannuation funds, providing mentorship to junior team members, reviewing complex audit files, and ensuring all audits align with both financial and legislative requirements. Core Responsibilities Conduct financial (Part A) and compliance (Part B) audits of SMSFs in line with SISA, SISR, and ASAE standards Verify adherence to superannuation law, such as the sole purpose test, asset ownership restrictions, in‑house asset rules, and trustee compliance Report any contraventions to trustees and the ATO via the Auditor/Actuary Contravention Report (ACR) and complete the approved Independent Auditor’s Report (IAR, NAT 11466) Ensure thorough working papers and documentation to support audit conclusions — enabling third-party review clarity Lead, delegate, and mentor within the audit team; be a go-to for fund and client queries Maintain auditor independence, fulfill CPD requirements, and uphold professional indemnity insurance and other ASIC obligations Ideal Candidate Profile Eligibility: Must be registered with ASIC as an approved SMSF auditor (holding an SMSF Auditor Number) and meet the ongoing standards for CPD, insurance, and independence Experience: 5 years in SMSF audits within Australian practice settings; proven ability to handle complex audit scenarios Qualifications: CA or CPA qualified (or nearing completion); met audit competency prescribed by ASIC. Technical Skills: Familiar with audit software (e.g., SimpleFund 360, BGL) and robust documentation practices.
