Bundaberg Hospital is a 250 bed hospital serving the Bundaberg, North Burnett and Wide Bay Regions. As a phlebotomist you will be responsible for the collection of blood samples in accordance with Pathology Queensland protocols both to inpatients and outpatients. Your key responsibilities You will be required to fulfil the responsibilities of this role in accordance with the Queensland Public Service values.- Adhere to defined service quality standards, health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.- Perform general laboratory duties including receipt of specimens, registration of specimens, setup of microbiology samples and referral of specimens to other laboratories. - Collection of appropriate quality blood and non-blood specimens, performing a phlebotomist role. - Adherence to Pathology Queensland patient identification, labelling, collection and processing policies at all times.- Maintenance of the laboratory environment including cleaning and restocking of consumables.- Ability to prioritise tasks in order to meet service delivery deadlines.- Ability to respond to enquiries and instruction by clients by demonstrating effective communication skills.- Actively seek the advice or approval of supervisory staff in relation to changes in work practices.- Comply with National Association of Testing Authority/International Standardisation Organisation (NATA/ISO) accreditation/certification requirements including performing quality control procedures, assisting with preparation of procedure manuals and completion of relevant statistics.
