Job Description About the team and the role The role reports to the General Manager, Retail Performance & Growth and leads a small, growing team. It works closely with the broader Retail and Commercial teams, including leasing, design, marketing, and operations. Collaboration and innovation are central to the team’s success in driving revenue and customer satisfaction. Sydney Airport is investing in data and analytics to enhance commercial performance and passenger experience. The airport’s retail environment is complex, with diverse passengers and multiple retail partners. This new Retail Analytics & Growth Leader role will lead the transformation of retail operations through data-driven strategies, focusing on passenger behaviour, retailer performance, and revenue growth. About the role Strategic Leadership - Lead the development of a retail analytics strategy that supports SYD’s commercial objectives, while fostering a data-driven culture across retail and commercial teams. Ensure alignment with enterprise technology and data architecture and establish clear KPIs and performance frameworks to measure success across retail categories. Performance Management - Design and implement dashboards and reporting systems to monitor retailer performance and passenger spending behaviours across retail segments. Apply predictive modelling to optimise retail mix, pricing, and promotions, while supporting business cases for new retail concepts and space planning decisions. Data Management & Analytics - Oversee the management of large and complex datasets, including sales, mobility, and demographic data, while ensuring strong data governance and quality standards. Integrate retail analytics needs into SYD’s broader data strategy and infrastructure, and champion the use of advanced techniques such as machine learning to unlock deeper insights. Revenue Growth - Identify and pursue data-driven opportunities to grow retail revenue and increase passenger spend across segments. Analyse how operational factors—such as flight schedules and passenger flows—impact retail performance and apply insights to optimise pricing and promotional strategies. Market Intelligence - Stay ahead of global airport retail trends by benchmarking against leading international airports and identifying emerging retail concepts early. Use industry networks to attract premium retail partners and ensure SYD remains at the forefront of innovative retail offerings. About you The ideal candidate holds a bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field such as Data Science, Analytics, Economics, or Business, with over 10 years of experience in data analytics, business intelligence, or commercial analytics. You will have a proven track record of leading high-performing teams and delivering business impact through advanced analytics, data modelling, and large-scale data integration. Strong commercial acumen, particularly in retail or consumer-facing industries, is essential, along with excellent stakeholder management and communication skills. You will also bring expertise in retail operations, financial forecasting, project management, and the ability to translate business needs into actionable analytical solutions.
