Who we are Goods and Conveyance Policy Branch is responsible for determining, developing, and enabling the strategies, regulatory frameworks, tactics and interventions that manage biosecurity and other risks within the transport and trade pathways into Australia. The branch brings together how the department detects and responds to biosecurity risk and non-compliance. The branch sets operational policy for the biosecurity clearance of all air and sea cargo, conveyances and ports, mail, military, seasonal pests, and provides support and advice on policy assessment related matters Military Policy is responsible for the development of policy to manage onshore biosecurity risk associated with the movement of military cargo, conveyances and personnel either returning to, or entering, Australian territory. We support the education and awareness of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and foreign defence forces (FDFs) of biosecurity risks through the development of targeted training materials. We assist the ADF and FDFs plan military exercises in Australia and work closely with Military Operations in Biosecurity Operations Division to manage the deployment of biosecurity officers to conduct offshore biosecurity inspections across the world. Military Policy is also responsible for overseeing and implementing the Agriculture-Defence Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), the primary policy framework (in addition to the Biosecurity Act 2015 ) for engaging with the Department of Defence, the ADF and FDFs to manage biosecurity risk. The key duties of the position include The Job The Assistant Director - Planning, Military Policy is a dynamic, exciting and complex role which balances strong biosecurity regulation against ensuring strategic objectives of the Australian Government are met. The role has a diverse stakeholder group ranging from other government departments to the Australian Defence Force (ADF) to foreign defence forces (FDFs) entering Australia's territories to conduct exercising either in a unilateral, bilateral or multilateral manner. The occupant of the position be a strong leader who can: establish, manage and negotiate the department's annual and forecast offshore biosecurity inspection program represent Military Policy, and the department, during planning of defence activities within Australia develop and maintain strong working relationships with diverse stakeholder groups convey, with confidence, key biosecurity entry requirements while remaining outcomes focussed manage a small team of planners during periods of planning uncertainty and changing priorities, and demonstrate strong acumen in identifying, providing briefing on, and managing biosecurity risk both offshore and onshore in line with our commitments.
