About the team The National Measurement Institute (NMI) is a large division within the Department of Industry, Science, and Resources (DISR). The NMI supports DISR in meeting its objectives by being the national authority on measurement. We play a fundamental role underpinning the Australian economy by maintaining and regulating Australia’s measurement system, developing and maintaining national measurement standards, and delivering world-class measurement products and client services. NMI’s Legal Metrology Branch plays an important role in ensuring Australian consumers and industry can rely on trusted measurements for fair trade in goods and services. The Legal Metrology Branch supports and regulates industry to provide trusted measurements for fair trade in goods and services via administration of the National Measurement Act 1960 and subordinate regulations. The role will be within the Programs and Governance Section within the Legal Metrology Branch. The opportunity The Data Architect will support the Legal Metrology Branch to deliver a major IT enhancement project for DISR: the Trade Measurement Activity and Reporting System Phase 4 Enhancement Project. The project will deliver critical enhancements to the Microsoft Dynamics Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and associated NMI Services Portal (NMISP) as part of NMI’s broader digital strategy. This is a 10-month non-ongoing position specifically for this project. Extension or ongoing conversion may be considered upon completion of the project. What’s in it for you? You will be a key team member working with the DISR Chief Information Officer Division (CIOD) and managers and users within the Legal Metrology and Physical Metrology Branches of the NMI. We’re looking for candidates with strong analytical and communication skills who understand the data lifecycle. Ideally, you will have knowledge of and experience working with Dynamics 365 CRM applications with external portals. You will map current data holdings, inputs, and dependencies impacted by the project and research and recommend options for improvement. Our ideal candidate will demonstrate: Demonstrated experience as a Data Architect in Australian Public Service settings, preferably within agencies with regulatory compliance responsibilities. Experience assessing and optimizing data holdings to ensure effective execution of business responsibilities and goals. Understanding of, or ability to quickly learn, data security controls required by DISR. Strong oral and written communication skills, high accuracy, attention to detail, and good negotiation and presentation skills for diverse audiences. Ability to build and maintain relationships; liaise with stakeholders within and outside the division. Adherence to the Australian Public Service Values, NMI values, and Code of Conduct, behaving honestly, ethically, and professionally. What you will do As a Data Architect, you will: Map existing data holdings, inputs, and dependencies impacted by the project in consultation with stakeholders. Investigate and recommend data optimization strategies for the project streams. Design and implement data architecture and integration frameworks that ensure best practice data lifecycle management and compliance with standards, policies, and regulations. Create documentation to support new data processes. Collaborate with stakeholders to improve reporting processes, standards for data accuracy, and quality. Monitor and adapt data processes based on effectiveness and new information. Apply critical thinking to the project and guide end users to adopt a similar mindset. Work collaboratively across divisions, departments, and government to deliver outcomes and share knowledge. Uplift and maintain data governance policies, processes, access, and compliance. Eligibility To be eligible, candidates must be Australian Citizens and hold a Baseline security clearance, with the ability to maintain it. Notes Experience in digital transformation projects, especially CRM, is desirable. A merit pool may be established for future vacancies within 18 months of the first advertisement.
