Join RBA’s Payments Settlements back-office team 2 positions available (1 perm & 1 max-term contract until Feb 2027) Play an important part shaping the future of our iconic Australian institution Develop your career in a collaborative environment About the Role Settlements section is one of the core functions of the Payments Settlements Department and is responsible for settling the Bank’s own market transactions and high value transactions for the Bank’s overseas clients and government agency customers. The section works closely with the Bank’s Banking Department, Financial Markets Group and representative offices in London and New York. This is an exciting time to be joining the Settlements team as we are at the heart of the various Bank projects required to support the move to ISO 20022 message standards. The Business Officer will assist both the Assistant Managers and Managers of the section to ensure daily back-office operations are completed efficiently and that a high level of service is provided to all internal and external clients. Daily operations are undertaken by a team of 13, including 2 Managers and 6 Assistant Managers, based at offices in Sydney CBD and Bella Vista. This position is based at Bella Vista. This section is deemed very critical given the nature of the daily operational work and there is a requirement to perform work on a rotational shift basis as follows (though these may vary slightly depending on operational needs and pressure): Day – 7:30am – 4:18pm Winter Shift – 9:42am – 6:30pm Summer Shift – 11:42am – 8:30pm Saturday (monthly) – 1 hour approximately from home There is also a potential requirement to work overtime or irregular hours, including weekends and public holidays with minimal notice. Key Responsibilities Process high-value payments and securities settlements for the Bank and its clients Ensure transactions are authorised and reconciliations are completed accurately Provide expert guidance to internal and external stakeholders Monitor systems and resolve issues proactively Review operations and update business continuity strategies About You We’re looking for someone who is adaptable, detail-oriented, and thrives in a fast-paced environment. To be successful in this critical role you will possess: Experience in a critical day to day operational environment involving tight deadlines. Strong attention to detail and procedural accuracy Experience in back office or banking systems and functions. Knowledge of (or interest in) high value payments and settlements practices in both foreign exchange and/or debt market securities. Ability to commit to rotating shift patterns and work from site. Experience in RITS, Austraclear, Swift or ISO 20022 message standards would be favourably viewed.
