Description Overview First Line Risk is accountable for identifying and reporting risks, and partnering with the business to mitigate them within the Board’s defined risk appetite. The Business Partner, 1st Line Risk will work closely with leaders to strengthen our first line of defence and drive operational resilience. As a trusted advisor, this role builds strong stakeholder relationships, enhances decision-making, promotes a positive risk culture and ensures effective risk management across the business. Drive operational resilience and strengthen our first line of defence Partner with senior leaders to embed a strong risk culture Play a key role in shaping risk strategies and continuous improvement The role is part of the Risk & Compliance team and works collaboratively to strengthen Control, Assurance and Governance frameworks, with support and direction from the Senior Manager, 1st Line Risk. Key Accountabilities and Main Responsibilities Strategic Focus Align with business teams to embed a “risk as a mindset” culture. Build capability and uplift risk awareness across the organisation. Operational Management Develop First Line Risk protocols and train departments on implementation. Identify and escalate emerging risks to relevant stakeholders. Monitor and track risk mitigation plans, ensuring timely completion. Partner with leaders on internal audit actions and risk register management. Evaluate internal control frameworks and recommend improvements. Deliver assurance mapping and risk input into early change assessments (ECA). Contribute to continuous improvement of risk management strategies. People Leadership Coach and support staff to strengthen risk capability and knowledge. Foster alignment with business objectives through clear, effective communication. Governance & Risk Ensure adherence to legal and regulatory requirements. Support assurance programs and compliance practices across the business. Attend committee meetings and report on regulatory compliance as required. Experience & Personal Attributes Essential Criteria 3 years’ experience in operational risk, compliance or related disciplines (financial services preferred). Tertiary qualification in business, commerce or related field. Strong knowledge of risk management principles and frameworks. Understanding of superannuation legislation and regulatory requirements. Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver outcomes under pressure. Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills. Excellent written and verbal communication. Ability to analyse complex processes and design effective controls. Collaborative and proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.
