The Role In this new position, you will: Provide professional and specialist advice to People Managers and staff in relation to child safeguarding Ensure Council meets all obligations under the Victorian Child Safe Standards and national child safety legislation Improve child safe practices at the City by ensuring that an organisational culture of child safety is embedded and ensuring that policies, procedures and practices reflect best practice in child safety Chair and coordinate the Child Safe Working Committee, driving strategic initiatives and collaboration across departments Respond to allegations or concerns of harm to children and young people by ensuring they are taken seriously, investigated appropriately, and reported to the relevant authorities Lead awareness initiatives and communication strategies to promote understanding of child abuse prevention and child safety This role will work across all City service delivery with a particular focus on our two childcare centres, School Crossing Supervision program and youth programs. This is a part time role, 19 hours per week (0.5 FTE), with flexibility on the days and hours worked. The role is based at our Galkangu office, but will travel to our other sites. About You To be successful in this role, you will have: Strong knowledge of the Victorian Child Safe Standards, the Child Wellbeing and Safety Act, and national child safety legislation and principles Experience in risk assessment, incident response, and managing child safety matters in a complex organisation Experience leading or supporting investigations and reporting processes under the Reportable Conduct Scheme or equivalent frameworks The ability and/or experience in developing and implementing policies, procedures and training materials related to child safety and safeguarding Excellent interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills The ability to influence a broad range of stakeholders to drive change and compliance through effective partnerships Strong project management skills Relevant qualifications in human resources, youth work, social work, community services, human services or similar A satisfactory police check, employee Working with Children Check and drivers licence is required for this role.
