Designated Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander appointment EMAC is a formally recognised Registered Aboriginal Party (RAP), with responsibilities for protecting and managing cultural heritage across a broader area extending to Winchelsea and Landsborough. As the representative body for Eastern Maar citizens, EMAC leads the advancement of native title rights and interests, cultural heritage protection, high-quality policy advice, and initiatives aligned with the inherent rights, aspirations, and independence of its people. PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION The purpose of the position is to provide on-site supervision, team coordination, and coaching to Guardians and support the Biocultural Landscapes Division to deliver on the goals of the Eastern Maar Country Plan. KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Key duties include: Supervise Guardians in the field - manage attendance, conduct, and safe work practices Plan and allocate daily tasks to Guardian crews; adjust to on-the-ground conditions as needed Mentor Guardians through on-the-job coaching and modelling of safe, effective work Flag any performance or conduct concerns to the Manager for follow-up Help the Coordinator manage crew scheduling and planning at an operational level Deliver a range of on-the-ground tasks as a working team lead (“on the tools”) Provide summaries of end-of-job reports Support new Guardian inductions, introduce new staff to worksite processes and expectations Coordinate project wrap-up, including collection of reports, photos, tools, and handovers, etc., as required Prioritise on-site presence at complex or high-risk projects, especially in early stages Work closely with the Healthy Country team to support delivery and develop broader leadership skills Support Junior Ranger Program as required Act as Health & Safety representatives for their teams Take on specialist responsibilities ("hats") such as: Fleet and equipment oversight (asset register, maintenance scheduling) Providing cultural heritage inductions (capability to be developed over time) KEY SELECTION CRITERIA - Essential Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated experience of working collaboratively Ability to communicate respectfully, sensitively and effectively with Eastern Maar citizens Sound organisational skills with demonstrated ability to take initiative and manage issues Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, listening) Competencies and experience in cultural heritage identification Proven ability to receive and follow directions and instructions High degree of self-motivation and commitment to productive personal time management Respect for privacy requirements and an ability to maintain confidentiality Appropriate level of fitness and ability to sustain activity consistent with this position Proven connection to the Eastern Maar Territory KEY SELECTION CRITERIA - Desirable Understanding of the full range of work of EMAC's Guardian program, including cultural heritage work and Healthy Country programs Strong understanding of the importance of Country to Traditional Owners and recognition of the Eastern Maar Peoples as Traditional Owners of the south-west region of Victoria Commitment to and appreciation of Eastern Maar culture, values, perspectives, and heritage, including impacts of colonisation and importance of cultural continuity Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Aboriginal self-determination and supporting aspirations of the Eastern Maar community Basic computer skills, including Outlook emails and Microsoft Office Working with EMAC - Our offer to you At EMAC, we are committed to fostering a supportive, culturally safe, and empowering work environment.
