Zilm Pastoral is looking for an experienced, full-time earthmover to lead and implement the construction of new farming infrastructure. The role also involves servicing and maintaining on-farm machinery and vehicles when possible. The successful candidate may also be required to operate farm machinery and trucks for fodder production seasonally. The Employer Zilm Pastoral & Ag Contracting is a family-owned and operated business in Llowalong, East Gippsland. Their portfolio consists of three properties, all within a convenient 40-minute drive of each other, encompassing 3,200 acres. They maintain a commercial herd of 800 spring-calving Angus cows, trades, and fatten 1,500 steers annually. The business envisages implementing a cattle feedlot as part of its long-term livestock investment goals, a step beyond its current containment feeding regime. The farm produces approximately 200 acres of irrigated fodder, utilising a centre pivot, growing high-quality lucerne hay, silage, and Maize corn. Pastures are sown down to a ryegrass and clover mix, incorporating legumes and herbs. Our client strives for progressive and forward planning practices, investing in soil carbon projects that promote overall general farm and environmental health while being mindful of biosecurity. This family-owned and run business aspires to be an industry leader within the mixed farming agricultural sectors, with a constant thirst to learn and improve on what is already a very successful business model. The Role As an earthmover at Zilm Pastoral, you will work closely with, and report to the owner, and be part of a fast-paced team, in a role that requires excellent organisational and time management skills and flexibility in your work schedule. Assistance with fodder production may be necessary during seasonal periods, and knowledge of irrigation practices is advantageous. For planned infrastructure and property developments, including storage dams, cattle feedlots, and water and laneway systems, proficiency in operating earth-moving equipment is crucial. This includes experience with a laser grader (4.5-metre bucket), bulldozer, or modern John Deere tractor with Terracotta software. Essential knowledge of soil structure and types is also required. At Zilm Pastoral, your expertise will be highly valued. You will have significant input in designing future workshop expansions, providing industry-specific guidance and knowledge. Your preferences and recommendations for future brand-specific machinery purchases will be encouraged and welcome. The Offer A competitive salary will be negotiated for the successful candidate, commensurate with experience, skills, and relevant industry qualifications. Additionally, assistance with accommodation and a modern Toyota utility work vehicle (including fuel) can be provided. Conveniently situated 5 minutes from Stratford and 20 minutes from Sale, enjoy a Gippsland lifestyle with a 1-hour drive to various beaches, winter snowfields, and numerous recreational areas for 4-wheel driving, camping, and fishing.
