The Role The Head of Wholesale Electricity Trading will be responsible for leading and managing SQE’S wholesale electricity portfolio trading activities. The focus of the wholesale electricity portfolio trading will be on: assessing the business market exposure, based upon its electricity sales and generating asset portfolio, competitor analysis and market trend awareness and managing these exposures in accordance with the acceptable risk framework. This role involves developing and executing trading strategies, putting in place and maintaining trading agreements with counterparties, managing trading risks, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements . The role will also be a key contributor to the development and management of the CEM Australian Financial Services Licence (AFSL) compliance framework and associated activities. This role will involve travel to other office locations and sites to engage and liaise with broader Squadron Energy (SQE) teams and relevant stakeholders. Key responsibilities: Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement the wholesale electricity and gas strategy in alignment with the company's overall business objectives. Trading Operations: Oversee daily trading operations for both electricity markets, including market analysis, trade execution, and position management. Risk Management: Identify, assess, and manage trading risks to ensure the company's exposure is within acceptable limits. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all trading activities comply with relevant regulations and industry standards. Team Management: Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing trading team. Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, market operators, and other industry participants. Performance Monitoring: Monitor and report on trading performance, providing insights and recommendations for improvement. Market Intelligence: Stay informed about market trends, regulatory changes, and other factors that may impact trading activities. Develop Hedging Strategy: Formulate and implement effective hedging strategies to mitigate risks associated with market price fluctuations in electricity. Manage the wholesale portfolio: Design, structure and execute transactions that are accretive from a portfolio perspective and align with the company's strategic objectives and risk management policies. Financial Market Analysis: Conduct thorough financial market analysis to inform trading decisions and strategies. Derivative Trading and Deal Capture: Engage in derivative trading and ensure accurate and timely capture of all deals in the trading system in accordance with our operational risk policy. Identify Wholesale Market Trends: Monitor and analyse trends in the wholesale electricity and gas markets to identify opportunities and threats. Informs the Development of the ERMP: Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of the Energy Risk Management Policy (ERMP). AFSL Compliance: Contribute to the development, continuous improvement and ongoing management of the AFSL compliance framework and activities. About you Bachelors degree in Engineering, Finance, Economics, Business, or a related field. AFMA Accredited AFSL Responsible Manager compulsory Extensive experience in wholesale electricity trading, with a proven track record of developing and executing successful trading strategies. Strong understanding of financial markets, derivative trading, and risk management principles. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex market data and trends. Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely.
