Your opportunity We’re looking for someone with heart and experience to join Mission Australia in a part-time role (21 hours per week, with flexible working days). This role will bring together and support our Mission Australia Advisory Panel – a group of people with lived experience of our services who share their voices, stories and knowledge to help shape the way we work. A big part of this role is making sure lived experience is valued and heard across the organisation, especially in our focus on ‘Choice, Control and Independence.’ You’ll be working alongside colleagues, partners and communities, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, to listen deeply, share power, and create better systems and services that reflect community strengths and needs. Your key responsibilities will be to: Coordinate and facilitate the Mission Australia Advisory Panel, including planning meetings, supporting members, and ensuring a safe, trauma-informed environment. Lead the inclusive recruitment of the next Advisory Panel (2026), ensuring a diverse and representative group of voices. Work with colleagues and leaders across Mission Australia to identify key topics and priorities for the Advisory Panel to explore and advise on. Promote and elevate the voices of people with lived experience, creating opportunities for their input into organisational decision-making and strategy. Support the development of other advisory and action groups (e.g. Housing, NDIS, Communities of Focus, Employment) to grow participation and strengthen influence across the organisation. Build and maintain strong relationships across Mission Australia and with external partners, encouraging collaboration, sharing stories, and amplifying the impact of lived experience. Manage reporting, planning and communication activities, ensuring insights and recommendations from the Advisory Panel are shared with the Board, Executive and wider organisation. Requirements for success Relevant qualifications in Human Services, Social Work, Community Development, Social Science, Public Policy or similar or equivalent experience acceptable to Mission Australia. Postgraduate study or training in Service Design, Systems Thinking or Co-Design will be highly regarded. Personal lived experience connected to Mission Australia’s service areas (such as housing, homelessness, mental health, substance use or other challenges) is highly valued. Experience working in lived experience advocacy, advisory, or participation roles, ideally within a medium to large service organisation. Understanding of and experience working respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. Effective skills in communication and facilitation, with the ability to engage and influence across different levels of an organisation. Ability to build relationships and provide support in ways that are safe, respectful and empowering. A passion for social justice, with the drive to create opportunities for people whose voices are often excluded to be heard and influence positive change.
