Assistant Tax Manager Smart Tax Search are proud to be Partnering with a leading Australian property group head officed in Sydney with global operation. We are looking to hire a Tax professional with strong compliance and reporting skills to join the Group, reporting to the Head of Tax. The key responsibilities of this role will be: Assisting with the preparation and review of Australian income tax returns including Company, Trusts, Partnerships, and individual tax returns. Review of foreign income tax calculations (no prior experience required). Review of various indirect and state tax return and payments. Review of offshore indirect taxes (no prior experience required). Using income tax software to prepare Australian income tax returns. Importing data into the tax software including checking mapping to correct accounts. Reviewing Trial Balances, Financial statements and other relevant workpapers for the purposes of preparing and reviewing income tax adjustments and calculations as well as tax return forms and disclosures (company, trusts, partnerships, and individuals). Liaising with internal divisions as well as external tax agent in relation to income tax compliance administration and queries. Preparation of workpapers and tax returns in an orderly and easy to follow manner for review by the Tax Manager/Head of Tax. Working with the Tax Manager, Head of Tax and finance teams to meet income tax compliance obligations/payments/deadlines. Assistance with the review of Australian Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) Returns. Various ad-hoc project work and business partnering. Assistance with completing recurring and non-recurring project work. Opportunity to lead or assist on such projects can provide variability for the ideal candidate interested in expanding skills outside of tax and to operate in an exciting but demanding finance team environment. Skills/Experience and Qualifications of the successful candidate: Minimum 5 years’ experience in an Australian Corporate Tax role, Proven ability to prepare and review Australian income tax returns and disclosures, particularly consolidated income tax returns and tax returns for all types of entities (Trusts, Partnerships, and individuals also ideally). A good level of understanding of Australian tax concepts (general income tax, tax consolidation, tax losses, taxation of entities and international taxation). A good level of understanding of income tax adjustments required for the purposes of preparing a statement of taxable income. Some experience with OneSource Corporate Tax would be desirable but not essential. Some experience in dealing with GST compliance and state taxes would be desirable but not essential. Drive to understand the key commercial business activities and complex group structures. Ability to remain calm in a dynamic environment. Ability to operate independently and set clear goals for achieving outcomes. Confidence to approach unfamiliar situations with a positive can-do attitude.
