Your Opportunity Based in Palmerston, this on-site position as a Transition to Work Youth Mentor is central in supporting young people aged 15 to 24 on their pathway toward employment, education, and brighter futures. You will engage with youth from the point of referral, offering both individualised and group support to strengthen their social and emotional wellbeing. By cultivating resilience and confidence, you will empower young people to pursue their education, training, and employment goals. Working closely with Youth Employment Specialists, you will implement tailored support plans that address each participant’s unique needs. Mission Australia’s Transition to Work program provides a cost-free, life-changing service for young people moving from school to work or further education, including apprenticeships and traineeships, with a strong focus on helping those who have left school early or are experiencing difficulty entering the workforce. Your Key Responsibilities Promote and sustain early youth engagement through outreach, drop-in sessions, and unstructured interactions to create a welcoming and supportive environment. Provide practical tools and guidance that enhance self-worth and empower young people to actively participate in their personal and professional development. Design, facilitate, and evaluate group workshops tailored to client needs, fostering skills and confidence in pursuing education and career goals. Maintain accurate and confidential case files in line with Mission Australia protocols and program requirements. Contribute to program growth through continuous improvement initiatives, innovative engagement methods, and new opportunities for client participation. Collaborate with Youth Employment Specialists to develop and implement individualised support plans linking clients to employment, education, or training opportunities. Build and maintain strong relationships with local youth services, facilitating workshops and strengthening community support networks. Requirements for Success A proven background in Youth Services, Employment Programs, and/or Community Services, and confident in your ability to connect and engage with young people, understanding the challenges they face and helping them overcome barriers to participation. Tertiary qualifications in youth work, social and emotional wellbeing, community services, or a related field (or working towards). Minimum of 12 months’ experience working with youth and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, with sound cultural awareness and respect for community protocols. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with confidence in advocating for clients and contributing in team discussions. Proven ability to foster and maintain relationships with young people, key community stakeholders, and other service providers. Demonstrated capacity to balance program deliverables with innovative and creative youth engagement strategies. Substantial administrative skills, attention to detail, and computer literacy, with the ability to meet program KPIs. First Aid Certificate is desired but not essential Full driver licence with no restrictions Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
