About the Role The Part-Time Barista is responsible for delivering high-quality coffee and exceptional customer service while maintaining efficiency in a fast-paced environment. This role involves overseeing coffee preparation, managing stock and supplies, maintaining equipment, and ensuring adherence to quality standards. The Barista is also responsible for fostering a positive team culture and assisting in training and development. About You The successful candidate will have prior experience as a barista in a high-volume café or hospitality setting. You should possess strong knowledge of coffee preparation, equipment maintenance, and stock management. Exceptional organisational and multitasking skills are required, along with the ability to thrive in a dynamic and community-focused environment. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential to provide outstanding service and work effectively with the team. Required Skills and Experience: 2 years of experience as a barista in an Australian café Strong knowledge of coffee preparation, milk texturing, and espresso extraction Experience with stock control and ordering supplies Ability to troubleshoot and maintain coffee equipment Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment Strong organisational and multitasking abilities Food Safety Supervisor certification (preferred) Physical fitness with the ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 20kg The main duties of the role include but are not limited to the below: Key Responsibilities Customer Service Lead by example with a strong presence on the floor and in service Provide exceptional customer service and engage with members positively Ensure all coffee and food items meet quality standards Address customer inquiries and resolve complaints professionally Foster a positive and collaborative team environment Coffee Preparation & Quality Control Ensure consistency in coffee preparation and presentation Maintain and follow established coffee recipes and standards Monitor milk texturing and espresso extraction to maintain quality Train and mentor team members in coffee techniques and service Stock Control and Ordering Manage inventory levels to ensure adequate stock of coffee, milk, and other supplies Place orders for supplies in a timely manner Monitor stock rotation and minimise waste Equipment Maintenance Ensure all coffee equipment is well-maintained and functioning properly Schedule regular maintenance and address repairs promptly Conduct daily cleaning and upkeep of machines and workspace Work Health and Safety Educate team members on WHS policies to maintain a safe work environment Ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene regulations Conduct regular checks to ensure cleanliness and operational safety Values All actions and behaviours must align with the philosophy and values of The Commons: Putting our members first Fostering our community Working together as a team Constantly learning and growing
