Your next career opportunity Join the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Melbourne as a Project Manager, where you'll play a pivotal role in the development, coordination, and implementation of major national pathogen genomics programs. You'll have the opportunity to manage the Australian Pathogen Genomics Program and the Communicable Diseases Genomics Network Secretariat, fostering cross-sector collaborations and contributing to the advancement of public health through pathogen genomics. This exciting role will allow you to leverage your project management expertise and stakeholder engagement skills to drive the success of these initiatives. Your responsibilities will include: Program Management: Independently manage the Australian Pathogen Genomics Program and the Communicable Diseases Genomics Network Secretariat, overseeing grant management, workplan development and delivery, stakeholder engagement, event coordination, and reporting. Strategic Alignment: Monitor and ensure progress towards achieving broad strategic objectives, under the guidance of project leads and the Head of Strategy. Stakeholder Engagement: Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, promoting project activities across local, national, and international stakeholders, and fostering strong partnerships with key national partners. Team Coordination: Coordinate a multidisciplinary team, organising meetings, supporting technical project activities, and developing communications materials and publications. Communications and Visibility: Undertake website management, social media, and content development to ensure visibility of national pathogen genomics initiatives. Reporting and Compliance: Assist in record keeping, compliance reporting, and preparation of reports for relevant parties. You may be a great fit if: You will be an experienced project manager with a tertiary qualification in public health, pathogen genomics, or a related field, possessing strong interpersonal and communication skills, excellent organisational abilities, and a proven track record in managing large-scale projects in complex environments. You may also: Possess a tertiary qualification and experience in public health, pathogen genomics, or a related field. Have demonstrated experience in managing large-scale projects in a complex, fast-paced environment. Exhibit strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to relate effectively with stakeholders across all levels. Possess excellent organisational and project management skills, with a high level of attention to detail in planning and implementation. Demonstrate excellent written communication skills, including preparation of briefings, reports, proposals, and public-facing communications. Have the ability to develop clear project plans, timelines, and monitor project progress effectively. Possess established problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to apply judgement to deliver specific solutions. Be highly self-motivated and proactive in the implementation of program activities. Have a high level of proficiency in using standard application software such as the Microsoft Office suite. Experience managing large research projects, with an understanding of the Australian research landscape (desirable). Possess an understanding of pathogen genomics in public health (desirable). Your new team – The Microbiological Diagnostic Unit and Centre for Pathogen Genomics The Microbiological Diagnostic Unit (MDU PHL) is a public health laboratory for the Department of Health, Victoria situated within the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Melbourne. The MDU PHL is concerned with provision of services for the laboratory diagnosis of diseases of public health importance, the application of typing methods, use of computer-based data collection systems for epidemiological purposes, and provision of expert opinion. In addition, the Unit undertakes the microbiological examination of foods and water for compliance with regulatory and voluntary codes and standards. The Centre for Pathogen Genomics is an academic and training hub, that delivers research and public and global health initiatives in pathogen genomics, public health and surveillance, bioinformatics, research, and capacity building/training across the University of Melbourne, Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.
