About the Role We are seeking a motivated Applications Engineer to join our Product Management team at Schlam. This newly created role supports the growth of our bucket sales and customisation capabilities. Working closely with our Product Manager – Attachments, engineering team, and sales team, you’ll bridge the gap between client requirements and engineering solutions. Key Responsibilities Produce and maintain Sales General Arrangement drawings, SolidWorks 3D CAD models, DXFs, BOMs, and catalogue data, ensuring all designs meet current standards and client specifications. Collaborate with engineering, product management, and sales teams to develop tailored bucket and attachment solutions, including new product concepts, standard documentation, and technical input for capital sales. Conduct site visits and research to gather application data, assess feasibility, understand costs & maintenance cycles, and to optimise payload, lifecycle, and productivity. Support material forecasting, planning, and optimisation; and manage Ground Engaging Tools catalogue, options, and bills of materials. Prepare technical reports, calculations, and presentations for stakeholders, and apply fabrication standards, welding specifications, and engineering analysis tools where required., Plan and manage projects to meet agreed timelines and quality standards, maintaining CAD models, engineering data, and design rules throughout the process. Qualifications & Skills Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering with 1–3 years’ experience in mechanical design/drafting. Proficiency in mathematical computing, engineering analysis tools, and 2D/3D design software (SolidWorks preferred). Strong written and verbal communication skills, including technical and procedural documentation, reporting and presentations. Proactive, flexible, and confident engaging with stakeholders at all levels. Solid understanding of mining excavator buckets, dump truck trays, and mobile equipment manufacturing, including industry trends and competitors. Knowledge of fabrication standards, welding specs, assembly instructions, and general arrangement details. Computer literacy across Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and SharePoint. Understanding of capital sales negotiations, commercial considerations, and cost implications. Technical product knowledge with optimum load and haul requirements, with competence in related engineering calculations.
