Aurizon is seeking a suitably qualified legal professional to join our high-performing Legal team as a Legal Counsel on a fixed term basis There is now an opportunity to join Aurizon’s legal team on a 12-month fixed term contract. As a Legal professional at Aurizon, you will work closely with other lawyers and paralegals to deliver commercially driven legal advice, with a focus on general enterprise legal support, including procurement, commercial contracting, technology, employment, safety and corporate governance. The successful candidate will be motivated by and interested in the variety and pace of in-house practice and will have the necessary experience to identify and address potential legal and regulatory issues facing Aurizon. About the role: As an Aurizon Legal Counsel, you will: Provide high quality and commercially focussed legal advice to protect the organisation's interests on a day-to-day basis, including advising on commercial contracts, technology, finance, procurement, governance & compliance, employment and safety. Support the development and implementation of improved business efficiencies through continuous improvement, innovation and initiatives in the delivery of the legal function and across the business in areas which legal supports. Draft, review and negotiate contracts to support all aspects of the organisation’s business. Interact with and manage external legal advisors where necessary. Assist in the conduct and coordination of litigation as required, in conjunction with external legal advisers where necessary. This role reports directly to the General Counsel, Corporate & Fleet. About you: Admitted to practice as a Legal Practitioner and hold a current practising certificate. Ideally a minimum of 3 to 6 years’ post admission experience. Relevant law firm experience and training in some of the following areas: commercial contracts, technology, procurement, governance & compliance, employment and safety. Prior in-house exposure or experience in a large corporate environment (not essential but would be highly regarded). Have a ‘can do’ attitude and willing to practice in a wide range of practice areas as required, including but not limited to procurement, IT, property, employment, safety, competition law and litigation. Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal communication, influencing, presentation, negotiating and relationship building skills.
