Glenorchy City Council is seeking a motivated Climate & Sustainability Officer to lead the delivery of its Climate Change Mitigation Action Plan and support a range of other impactful environmental and sustainability initiatives. You will work across teams, with the community, volunteers and alongside partners to identify strategies and actions to assist in reducing emissions, build climate resilience, and support broader environmental and sustainability priorities such as natural values management and waste minimisation. About the Role As the Climate & Sustainability Officer, you will: Coordinate, implement, monitor and report on Council’s Climate Change Mitigation Action Plan. Identify and implement emissions reduction initiatives for both Council operations and the Glenorchy community. Provide strategic and technical climate risk advice, embedding adaptation into Council’s planning and decision making. Contribute to capital works planning, procurement, and asset management to support climate change mitigation and adaptation. Support community engagement and environmental volunteer programs. Support broader environmental and sustainability priorities such as natural values management and waste minimisation. Identify and pursue external funding opportunities to support climate and sustainability projects. Represent Council in community, educational and other forums related to climate change and sustainability. About You You’ll bring: A relevant tertiary qualification in environmental science, sustainability, climate science, or a related field. Demonstrated experience delivering climate change or sustainability initiatives within a government or community setting. Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work collaboratively across departments and with stakeholders. Excellent project management and reporting capabilities. Understanding of environmental legislation, planning frameworks, and climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies. A commitment to safety, compliance, continuous improvement, and inclusive community engagement. Requirements: Tertiary qualification in a relevant field Current Driver’s Licence Working With Vulnerable Persons Card (ability to obtain) Position Details: Full-time (76 hours fortnight). 9 day fortnight because life happens outside of work too.
