The Role: A specialist Australian Cyber Security consultancy is seeking a Security Infrastructure Engineer to secure and harden hybrid environments for high-trust clients across Defence, Government, and Critical Infrastructure. Based in Newcastle, this role offers the opportunity to contribute to national security outcomes while working alongside a technical team with deep domain expertise. Key Responsibilities: Secure on-prem and cloud networks using firewalls, IDS/IPS, and endpoint protection tools. Design and maintain hardened Linux and Windows systems in line with CIS benchmarks. Configure, secure, and optimise Linux servers, including file permissions, SELinux/AppArmor, and firewall rules. Implement patch management, vulnerability remediation, and kernel hardening on Linux distributions. Deploy and manage security controls with Fortinet, Palo Alto, and AWS native services. Conduct vulnerability assessments across hybrid environments using Nessus and SIEM tools such as Splunk. Align solutions with NIST, Essential Eight, and ISO frameworks. Skills and Experience: Proven experience in network and cloud security engineering. Strong Linux administration skills, including security module configuration, system logging, and secure service deployment. Proficiency with Fortinet, Palo Alto, AWS, Windows Server. Experience with SIEM and vulnerability management platforms. Relevant certifications such as Fortinet NSE, CompTIA Security, or Certified Network Defender (CND).
