Job Description: Fitzroy location Challenging and rewarding work environment Full time Maternity Leave position until 28/8/2026 About the Role This position is a blend of two roles funded under Department of Health. In the first instance the weekend component of this position is designed to improve capacity to respond to alcohol and other drug presentations to the ED and aims: To extend the provision of specialist AOD coverage in ED & DoAM Consultation and Liaison clients located throughout the hospital. To improve linkages across SVHM departments involved in providing services to clients with AOD issues. Implementation of the AOD screening tool in ED To facilitate referrals to appropriate community based services. Provide AOD education and training within the emergency department In addition the position will coordinate the access to and follow-up for clients who are being considered for or receiving care under Severe Substance Dependent Treatment Act (SSDTA). Classifications for this position will range from NO1 - NO2. Your Contribution A qualification in or equivalent: •Nurse Practitioner – APHRA endorsed and registration which meets the registration requirements of the Nurses Board of Victoria in Division 1 or 3. A minimum of 5 years clinical experience – preferably in the AOD or related sector. •Experience in Addiction Medicine and /or related fields •Working knowledge of the SSDTA and the Victorian AOD service sector •Work closely with the Access and Engagement Coordinator at Depaul House, Residential Withdrawal unit, to ensure that SSDTA clients are supported and managed optimally during their residential withdrawal stay. •Current National criminal history check, or willing to obtain What we Offer •A focus on wellbeing initiatives, with regular events and programs •Confidential, solutions-focused employee counselling •A healthy work/life balance encouraged. The work includes direct patient treatment, research, education/training and policy development. Our multidisciplinary team includes doctors, nurses, social workers and specialist counsellors, and our treatment services encompass both acute withdrawal and long term management, using state-of-the-art methods and facilities. We have a strong culture of education, training and teaching, from undergraduate students to senior clinicians across a wide range of professional disciplines . This DoAM Nurse Practitioner (NP) role is based within the Emergency Dept. on weekends and at DoAM outpatients the other three days. It will have a strong collaborative and practical connection to Complex Care: Psychosocial Team (ALERT) which sits under HIP and is located within the Emergency Department. In addition this NP position will work closely with the ED Mental Health & Alcohol & other drugs (AOD) Hub & the DoAM CL team.
