The Energy Climate Change & Sustainability (ECCS) Group within the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) is currently seeking recruiting a Director Operations & Compliance to lead a number of functions in the new Energy Infrastructure Division. Within DCCEEW, the Energy Infrastructure Division ensures a safe, secure, and reliable electricity and gas supply through the energy transition. The Division is Responsible for policy stewardship, safety and technical regulation, technical advice and managing agreements for electricity and gas infrastructure investment and operations. About the Role The Director, Operations & Compliance plays a pivotal role in supporting the delivery of safe, secure, and reliable electricity and gas supply through the energy transition. This position will Lead regulatory functions across electricity networks and gas and liquid fuel pipelines, including licensing, accreditation schemes, compliance, and enforcement. Establish and oversee ECCS’s regulatory enforcement capability, ensuring consistent and appropriate application of compliance standards and enforcement actions. Oversee safety and technical regulation of gas and liquid fuel pipelines and corrosion protection systems, including licensing, statutory reporting, and investigations. Coordinate expert technical and safety advice on electricity networks, service and installation standards, and infrastructure connections. Administer regulatory processes for land acquisition to support new energy infrastructure development. Lead stakeholder engagement with infrastructure owners, network operators, pipeline developers, and other regulated entities. Manage and develop a high-performing team across five regulatory areas, fostering technical expertise and a strong compliance culture. About You Extensive understanding of industry regulation including accreditations, licensing reporting, investigations and enforcement. A background in regulatory administration, ideally in licensing or development consent , for example EPA, IPART, or the planning portfolio. A strong understanding of how regulators interpret and apply legislation. Experience working with technical experts and managing multiple teams. Proven ability to administer regulation efficiently, effectively, and fairly. Experience in energy, water, or resources portfolios is highly desirable.
