The Opportunity: Due to internal promotion, an exciting opportunity has become available as a Senior Inorganic Chemist to play a key leadership role within ALS Environmental, Springvale laboratory. Reporting to the Laboratory Manager, this high performing and experience team leader will provide technical expertise, quality assurance, and strategic guidance to ensure the laboratory maintains its commitment to scientific integrity, client satisfaction, and continuous improvement. Working closely with Section Team Leaders you will drive operational excellence, ensure regulatory compliance, and foster a collaborative, accountable, and innovation-driven culture. Located on-site at ALS Environmental, Springvale (Melbourne) the hours will be between 8:00 AM to 5:15 PM, Monday to Friday. Key Responsibilities: Scientific Leadership: Act as the senior Inorganic technical expert, guiding troubleshooting, method development, validation, and mentoring team leaders and chemists in best practices and process optimization. Operational Excellence: Manage daily operations to ensure timely, accurate results and client satisfaction, collaborating with team leaders to address capacity, bottlenecks, and issues. People & Team Development: Foster a collaborative, accountable team culture, supporting performance discussions, cross-training, and succession planning. Quality Assurance: Ensure compliance with ALS, NATA, and regulatory standards, monitoring QA/QC and leading audit investigations for corrective actions. Communication & Collaboration: Promote cross-functional teamwork, liaise between operations and management, and guide complex client queries and investigations. Qualifications & Experience: Degree in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline. Minimum 5 years of analytical chemistry experience, with a proven record in method validation, quality compliance, and instrumentation operation and innovation (e.g. ICP, GC-MS, IC, discrete analysers (DA), laboratory analysers, and/or autotitrators. Previous experience in leading or mentoring teams in a laboratory environment. Strong understanding of NATA, ISO/IEC 17025 and ALS quality systems. Demonstrated ability to lead scientific investigations and implement sustainable solutions.
