About the Role: A highly influential role reporting to the Manager Financial Strategy, the Coordinator Accounting leads a high-performing finance team responsible for Finance Business Partnering, Financial Accounting, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Budget Preparation, and Financial Reporting. This role is responsible for the delivery of accurate, timely, and compliant financial services whilst promoting collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement. Key Responsibilities Include: Lead, mentor, and develop a multidisciplinary finance team to drive operational excellence. Promote cross-functional collaboration and knowledge sharing across the finance function. Build strong internal stakeholder relationships to deliver financial insights and support. Lead the annual budget process with business units, support forecasting and planning. Prepare accurate, timely financial reports for internal and external stakeholders. Oversee general ledger maintenance and financial records, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, legislation, and Council policies. Oversee the preparation of the annual statement of accounts and support long-term financial planning. Coordinate month-end and year-end processes, including audit preparation. Manage accounts payable and receivable for accurate and timely processing. Ensure compliance with all statutory reporting requirements. Support the Manager Financial Strategy on financial matters as needed. Contribute to broader organisational projects and initiatives. Build strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to support Council's financial model. About You: To support your success in this role you will have: Experience in financial management within local government or a similar environment. Strong leadership with the ability to mentor, empower, and guide a team. Be skilled at building strong relationships with diverse stakeholders. An ability to focus on continuous improvement and practical business solutions. A diplomatic approach to resolving conflict and building consensus. Strong problem-solving, decision-making, research, and analytical skills. Excellent communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution abilities. High attention to detail with strong organisational and time management skills. A commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and child safety. Tertiary qualifications in Business (Accounting), Finance, or a related discipline are essential, as is a current Chartered Accountant or CPA qualification with current membership . Extensive knowledge of local government services, or experience working within a similar, large and complex organisation would also be required.
