Description: About The Role As Legal Counsel, you will support a broad range of legal, governance and risk activities across the organisation. Working as part of a high-performing team, you’ll provide practical and timely advice across commercial contracts, property development, litigation, regulatory compliance, and governance matters. This is a dynamic role offering diverse legal challenges in a complex national environment. You’ll liaise with senior leaders, regulators, external legal advisers and internal stakeholders to guide Housing Choices through legal obligations and opportunities. Key responsibilities include: Provide legal advice on commercial contracts, development, litigation and governanceSupport regulatory obligations, external reporting and probity mattersDraft, review and negotiate agreements with partners, suppliers and agenciesAssist in maintaining core legal and governance policies and proceduresContribute to risk awareness, reporting and mitigation planningSupport ethical and compliant decision-making across business operationsCollaborate on legal education and internal capability building About The Team The General Counsel & CoSec group ensures robust governance, compliance, and legal management, underpinning Housing Choices Australia’s commitment to integrity and accountability. The team proactively manages risk, regulatory compliance, and corporate governance to sustain operational excellence and ethical standards. This function is integral to maintaining trust with stakeholders and ensuring that the organisation’s strategic and operational decisions align with legal obligations and best practices. Skills and Experiences: About You You will have: At least 4 years post-admission experience in commercial or corporate lawA current practising certificate or eligibility to hold one in AustraliaExperience in legal advisory roles in the private, public or NFP sectorsStrong interest in purpose-driven or community-based workExcellent problem-solving, stakeholder engagement and drafting skillsHigh levels of discretion, integrity and sound commercial judgementAbility to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, collaborative environment You must agree to undergo any required employment screening, including but not limited to a National Criminal History or Police Check, Working with Children or Vulnerable Persons Check, and NDIS Worker Screening Check.
