The key duties of the position include The Role The EL 1 Deputy Director Workforce is responsible for the JOC workforce capability and reports to the EL2 Director Workforce. The successful candidate will require strong written and verbal communication skills, and stakeholder engagement skills with experience in writing briefs and reports. They will have a keen eye for detail, be self-motivated and able to prioritise and complete tasks within agreed timeframes. They will have the ability to work effectively in a small team with limited direction and will be passionate about improving the workforce status in Defence's integrated workforce. A key requirement of the position will be to identify problems areas to mitigate workforce risks across the JOC Group. You will be able to identify opportunities for building team capability and adaptable to the evolving requirements of the workforce. About our Team The Directorate of Workforce is responsible for supporting, shaping and developing the JOC workforce under the Defence and Australian Government guidelines and frameworks. The Directorate collaborates with JOC leadership to identify capability and capacity requirements in managing the supply of APS and ADF talent. The position delivers customer-focused human resource services to optimise the employment life-cycle experience at an individual and organisational level. This team is critical to the efficient and effective management of the workforce at JOC. The team work closely with HQ Branches and external stakeholders to ensure workforce plans allocate the right resources, in the right roles. Our Ideal Candidate Our ideal candidate will have extensive Workforce planning experience at an executive level. You will: Lead alignment of JOC's workforce initiatives, integrating planning functions and managing workforce risk. Oversee analysis of workforce data against future workforce needs. Provide strategic advice on workforce planning requirements. Have outstanding written and verbal communication. Be a strong leader that drives innovation and diversity within an operational headquarters. Lead, coach and mentor teams and stakeholders. Coach and lead a high performing Workforce team. You are expected to be capable of building team capability through coaching, mentoring and feedback including reviewing and developing the quality of work undertaken by others within the work unit. Previous experience in human resources/workforce planning is desirable.
