The key duties of the position include The Communications and Engagement Unit promotes the institute and its work through media, stakeholder engagement, internal communication and ministerial liaison. It takes a leading role in helping AIHW staff to produce interesting and informative work. It is also responsible for the institute's corporate reporting and parliamentary functions. The unit comprises 4 teams - strategic communications and stakeholder engagement, media, authoring support, and parliamentary and corporate reporting. The AIHW is looking for a highly organised and motivated media professional with superior stakeholder engagement and writing skills to join its Communications and Engagement (CEU) team. Reporting to the Unit Head and working as part of the broader CEU team, you will promote the work of the AIHW by developing media releases, social media content, external newsletters and articles, assisting journalists with their enquiries, briefing spokespeople and proactively generating media coverage - all in a fast-paced environment. You will need to be able to lead a small team, write high-quality media releases, monitor, manage and report topical issues, respond to media enquiries in a timely manner, develop social media content and promotional materials, provide media training and advice to staff, and manage the relationship with media and Ministerial and Department contacts. Critical to the role will be the ability to build trusted relationships with the media and key internal and external stakeholders. The Media Manager is a key senior position within the Unit primarily responsible for overseeing the management of communication with media, external stakeholders-ministerial and departmental and providing high level communication advice to senior management. Under limited direction: Lead and manage staff performance, resources, and strategic direction in collaboration with senior officers. Develop and deliver effective media and social media strategies to promote AIHW products and visibility. Build and maintain strong relationships with media and stakeholders, representing the institute's views. Monitor and respond to emerging health and welfare issues Advise and support senior executives and spokespeople on media and social media matters, including development of media releases and social media content, media training and briefings. Engage and collaborate across AIHW and external partners, ensuring policy compliance and professional representation. Report on the AIHW's media and communication activities. Our ideal candidate will have most or all of the following skills and knowledge: Relevant qualifications and/or direct experience (at least 5 years) in communication, public relations, journalism or a related field. Strong leadership and people management skills, including the ability to provide direction, support, development, and effective performance management of staff. Proven superior writing ability, particularly in a journalistic context, with highly developed communication skills. The ability to achieve results by leveraging others' expertise and fostering productive, collaborative relationships with diverse stakeholders to ensure delivery of outcomes. Desirable Previous experience in media and social media management along with an understanding of Australian Government communication requirements and processes will also be highly desirable.
