About Us: MRead is a spin off growth company, and a Division of MagnaTerra Limited, leading the commercial development and application of the world leading CSIRO magnetic resonance sensing technology for the detection of explosives and drugs. We’re passionate about developing cutting-edge technology in humanitarian demining, with parallel applications in defence and security. Join a collaborative, innovative, and highly motivated team where your expertise will help shape the next generation of our technology. Position Overview: We are looking for a talented Magnetic Resonance Physicist/Scientist to join our growing team. You will perform research to develop novel magnetic resonance (MR)-based real time instruments to solve a range of challenging, real-world problems in the demining industry. The position offers considerable variety, tackling scientific, engineering and logistical challenges. You will be encouraged to use or develop your own skills and expertise to contribute to existing projects and to contribute to new capability development in the MR research area. Such areas currently include zero-field NMR (NQR), NMR analysis techniques and RF antenna simulation. The position would ideally suit a person with an excellent theoretical understanding of physics concepts and an interest in developing ideas to move from the laboratory to industry applications. Significant work will involve planning experiments and operating MR systems in the laboratory. You’ll be working closely with cross-functional teams to create manufacturable systems to the highest standards of quality and reliability and participating in their evaluation by industry. Key Responsibilities: · Experimentation: Appropriating existing experimental methods, and creating new ones, to measure various explosive and drug samples using MR. · Simulation: Using computer modelling to validate experimental results and to explore performance improvements. · RF knowledge: Using skills in radiofrequency measurement and analysis, such as assembly and design of radiofrequency circuits, to create new methods to measure explosive and drug samples. · Physics knowledge: Using a deep knowledge of electromagnetic, solid-state and experimental physics to prototype and develop novel analysers and explain experimental data. · Trials: Taking part in technology field trials in Australia and overseas. · Prototyping and Testing: Build prototypes and run tests to validate theory, ensuring performance meets specifications. · Troubleshooting: Analyse and troubleshoot hardware-related issues in existing designs, providing effective solutions to enhance performance. · Documentation: Document and present results in a meaningful format, prepare reports for both clients and internal usage and/or write scientific papers for publication. · Collaborative Innovation: Work closely with electrical, software, and mechanical engineering teams to integrate physics knowledge into larger systems. Key Qualifications: · Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in physics or physical sciences (with a physics major) · Excellent experimental and measurement skills. · Demonstrated ability to independently deliver assigned research project objectives and report outcomes within a specified timeframe. · Good communication and interpersonal skills, including working constructively with research scientists, engineers, support staff and/or client personnel. · Interest in applying scientific problem solving and research to solve practical problems in industry. · Familiarity with Python or other programming languages. · Willing and able to travel within Australia and overseas for periods of 2-4 weeks at a time, and to participate in technology trials in remote locations. Desirable: · Familiarity with COMSOL software or simulation programs. · Familiarity with NQR. · Experience in magnetic resonance spectroscopy. · Experience in radiofrequency physics/engineering. · General electronics knowledge. · Experience with industrial research or applied research with defined goals. What We Offer: · Competitive Salary & Benefits: We offer a competitive remuneration package. · Work-Life Balance: We promote a healthy work-life balance with flexible working hours and remote work options. · Innovative Projects: Join a dynamic team working on the latest technologies and contribute to groundbreaking projects.
