It brings together people, ideas and resources to drive regional development and advocate for local people, businesses and organisations. The Gulf Savannah stretches from the Atherton Tablelands to the Northern Territory border, encompassing diverse communities and industries across a unique outback‑to‑coast landscape. About the Role Reporting to senior regional leadership, you will lead community recovery and resilience preparedness, response and transition activities. You will coordinate multi‑agency efforts, strengthen local capability, and steward networks that support emotional wellbeing, practical assistance and long‑term recovery for disaster‑impacted communities. Three positions are available, with one position providing services to either Burke, Carpentaria and Doomadgee Local Government Areas. The positions may be based in any of the LGAs, or Cairns or Mount Isa (on a fly in/out basis). Responsibilities Lead and implement community recovery and resilience strategies and operational plans for disaster events. Strengthen preparedness, resilience and response capacity by collaborating with councils, NGOs, and government agencies. Provide strategic advice and stakeholder briefings during disaster events and recovery phases. Drive service improvement by analysing events, identifying gaps, and coordinating program transitions (e.g. DRFA). Oversee staff leadership, training, governance, and participation in on-call and regional disaster recovery and resilience efforts. Skills and Experience Required Extensive experience in community development, recovery/resilience, emergency management, or complex human services within multi-stakeholder environments. Strong knowledge of Queensland disaster management systems, community development and resilience-building practices. Skilled in strategic planning, program design, project delivery, evaluation, and high-level written communication. Inclusive and adaptable leader who builds trusted relationships and fosters capability, wellbeing, and good governance.
