About the Role We’re seeking a Technical Dairy Officer to join the Ellinbank SmartFarm as part of the Technical team within Agriculture Victoria Research. This role supports a mix of hands-on dairy operations and scientific research activities. It's ideal for someone who is practical, enthusiastic, and eager to learn—especially in a research-oriented environment. This is a VPS 2.1 casual position, offering up to 38 hours per week, with an immediate start and an excellent hourly rate. While previous experience working with livestock or in dairy systems is helpful, it’s not essential. We’re primarily looking for someone who’s motivated, reliable, and ready to be trained in the unique work we do at the SmartFarm. Key Responsibilities Assist with the movement and care of dairy herds involved in research trials Set up temporary fencing and help with day-to-day livestock activities Monitor animal health and wellbeing, keeping an eye out for any signs of illness Record data accurately using paper-based forms and digital tools like Excel Support sample collection and help prepare equipment and kits for research Lend a hand with routine dairy work such as milking, feeding, and cleaning Maintain a clean and safe working environment Work alongside scientists, technical officers, and farm staff to support both experimental and commercial operations Key Selection Criteria An interest in livestock, agriculture, or research work A good attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn new skills Confidence using basic technology and recording information (e.g., Excel or similar tools) Ability to follow instructions and also work independently when needed Enjoys working as part of a team and communicating with others Some experience in farming, animal care, or hands-on work is an advantage but not essential How to Apply All applications MUST be received via the GBS Recruitment website (www.gbsrecruitment.com.au), Job 924141 and include a covering letter outlining your experience.
