Overview A Utility Technician is responsible for performing field-based activities related to the maintenance, operation, and support of water infrastructure systems. This role involves service locating and working around live and fragile assets while ensuring compliance with safety protocols and technical standards. The position requires physical fitness, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in dynamic site conditions. Key Responsibilities Maintenance : Conduct inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs of water infrastructure and equipment Safety: Follow all safety protocols and procedures to maintain a secure working environment Excavation: Carefully work around live, old, and fragile services using hand and mechanical excavation tools Plan Interpretation: Ability to read and understand BYDA Plans Documentation : Keep accurate records of system performance, maintenance activities, and repairs Collaboration : Work with project teams and stakeholders to meet deadlines and deliver high-quality outcomes Durability : Ability to perform manual tasks in the elements. Requirements Minimum of 2 years of experience in water utility operations or a related field Construction White Card (mandatory) Current Driver’s Licence Successful completion of pre-employment medical and drug and alcohol screening Highly Desirable: MR Driver’s Licence Excavator ticket PVC Pipelaying certification Identify, Locate and Protect Services ticket Work Environment Roles are based in Perth with flexible work arrangements that may alternate between Metropolitan, Drive-In Drive-Out (DIDO), or Fly-In Fly-Out (FIFO) (2/1), depending on project needs. Work locations, schedules, and shifts including night shifts, can vary week to week to accommodate operational requirements.
