An excellent opportunity to apply your natural resource expertise The Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations & Rural Development (FLNRORD) is responsible for stewardship of Provincial Crown land and natural resources, and protection of B.C.’s archaeological and heritage resources. Overseeing a land base of 94.8 million hectares, the Ministry supports the sustainable management of forest, mineral and land resources, the prosperity, viability and competitiveness of industries that use them, and public access for a wide range of activities such as hunting, fishing and recreation. The Ministry is responsible for research, policy development, and operational management and policy implementation. There exists a growing demand for high quality genecology information to guide the deployment of forest genetic resources in a changing climate in FLNRORD. This position within the Forest Genetics Section of the Forest Improvement and Research Management Branch (FIRM) of the Office of the Chief Forester is intended to provide support to Climate Change Adaptation Scientist in maintaining and gathering information from long-term field genetics trials, and providing records and data management for FIRM’s climate change adaptation research program. JOB REQUIREMENTS: To be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below: University degree (science, engineering, resource management, or geography preferred) or technical diploma (engineering or resource management preferred). BC Class 5 driver’s licence. Data and file management experience. Preference may be given to applicants with the following: Experience doing field work in remote locations and navigating resource roads. GIS experience. Experience in budget tracking and financial management. Experience with weather station equipment. Must be physically fit and able and willing to conduct field work (sometimes to remote areas) which may include travel by vehicle, boat, air or foot, overnight or extended stay and outdoor work in all weather conditions, and may involve irregular hours and overtime.
