Welcome to URBAN CARAVANS – where your off-road dreams are ready to take off. Responsibilities Analyzing technical drawings, work orders, and sample parts to define specifications. Identifying tooling and machine requirements and determining the sequence of operations. Preparing woodworking machines and materials for accurate cutting, planning, turning, shaping, and sanding. Operating machinery to cut, plane, turn, shape, and sand workpieces efficiently. Removing old finishes using steel wool, sandpaper, solvents, and paint strippers, followed by scraping softened finishes. Applying varnish, shellac, lacquer, stains, and paint to surfaces, followed by polishing and waxing to achieve a smooth, professional finish. Assembling and securing frame components. Installing backing materials and mounting subjects for framing. Repairing and restoring damaged or worn furniture to its original condition. Customizing furniture finishes to meet client specifications, including matching colours and textures. Conducting quality checks to ensure all work meets industry standards. Maintaining and cleaning tools and equipment to ensure proper functionality. Collaborating with designers, carpenters, and clients to deliver high-quality results. Advising clients on furniture care and recommending suitable finishing products for maintenance. Managing inventory of finishing materials and placing orders as needed. Ensuring compliance with safety protocols and maintaining a clean and organized workspace Requirements and skills. Diploma or certification in furniture finishing, woodworking, or a related discipline Demonstrated experience as a furniture finisher or in a similar role, with a strong understanding of various finishing techniques for wood and other materials. In-depth knowledge of sanding, staining, varnishing, and other finishing methods, including the ability to operate tools and machinery specific to furniture finishing. Highly organized with strong attention to detail, ensuring that all furniture pieces meet high-quality standards for finish, durability, and aesthetic appeal. Ability to interpret design specifications and apply creative finishing techniques to enhance the appearance and functionality of furniture products. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with respect for diverse perspectives and ideas, and the ability to work collaboratively with design and production teams. Strong time-management skills, capable of prioritizing tasks and managing multiple projects to meet production deadlines Furniture Finisher Additional Responsibilities: Ensure all finishing tasks are conducted in compliance with health and safety regulations to safeguard the well-being of workers and maintain a safe working environment. To be considered for this role: Technical Proficiency: Skilled in operating a variety of furniture finishing tools and machinery, with a solid understanding of materials, stains, varnishes, and coatings used in furniture production. Attention to Detail: Strong focus on precision and detail, ensuring high-quality finishes that meet or exceed client expectations. Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to troubleshoot issues with materials, finishes, or machinery, and to offer solutions in a fast-paced production environment. Time Management: Efficient in managing time and resources, capable of working under pressure to meet tight deadlines while maintaining high standards. Autonomy and Teamwork: Capable of working independently while also collaborating effectively with team members to ensure smooth workflow and project completion. Organizational Skills: Ability to develop and follow project management plans to track progress and ensure timely completion of finishing tasks. Professional Presentation: High level of written and verbal communication, with an emphasis on professionalism and clarity when liaising with clients or team members. Accountability: Strong sense of responsibility, demonstrating initiative, reliability, and accountability in all aspects of the role. Driver’s License: Must hold a valid driver’s license for transportation between sites, if necessary.
