We now have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and driven Payroll Manager to join our People Operations team in Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane office on a permanent full-time basis. Reporting to the General Manager People Operations, you will be responsible for managing APA’s end-to-end payroll function across a large and complex workforce. With a strong focus on compliance, governance and process excellence, you will ensure the delivery of accurate, timely and efficient payroll services while contributing to APA’s broader strategic goals. This is a dynamic opportunity to lead a high-performing payroll team and support key enterprise initiatives, including mergers and acquisitions and payroll transformation. Key Responsibilities: Oversee multiple fortnightly and monthly pay runs, ensuring accurate and timely compensation for employees. Manage complex end-of-month and end-of-year processing in compliance with payroll tax, PAYG, and superannuation obligations. Maintain strong controls for payroll data integrity and ensure alignment with APA’s policies, Enterprise Agreements and audit requirements. Champion payroll process improvements that enhance compliance, efficiency and employee experience. Collaborate with internal teams (IT, Workday support) and external vendors to optimise payroll and time & attendance systems (CHRIS 21 and Workday). Lead a skilled payroll team through high-volume periods with a focus on engagement, development and collaboration. Contribute to the success of the broader People Operations Leadership Team. Act as a payroll SME on key enterprise projects including M&A activity, payroll transformation, enterprise agreement implementation, and continuous improvement initiatives. About You: Extensive experience in payroll operations, including managing large and complex pay runs in a Shared Services environment. Proven leadership capability with experience leading and developing payroll teams. Strong understanding of payroll legislation, wage compliance, Enterprise Agreements, superannuation, PAYG and payroll tax. Experience with CHRIS 21 and Workday (highly desirable). Demonstrated experience in payroll remediation or transformation projects (advantageous). Highly analytical with strong attention to detail, data integrity and risk mitigation.
