About the role The Payroll System Analyst plays a pivotal role in ensuring the integrity, efficiency, and continuous improvement of AGL’s payroll systems. As a trusted advisor and technical expert, this role is responsible for the strategic oversight, hands-on configuration, and operational support of key payroll platforms including Workday, eTime, Realtime, Payforce, and Global View. Reporting to the Payroll Systems and Governance Manager, the Payroll System Analyst partners closely with HR, Finance, and IT stakeholders to ensure payroll systems are compliant, user-centric, and aligned with AGL’s enterprise objectives. The role also champions a high standard of customer service by delivering timely, accurate, and empathetic support to internal stakeholders, while driving innovation and best practices in payroll technology and governance. What you’ll be doing i) Leadership Provide strategic oversight of payroll systems and ensure alignment with business goals. Partner with senior business leaders, HR, and finance teams to translate strategic objectives into system requirements. Facilitate governance forums and decision-making processes related to payroll systems. Lead or support payroll-related projects including feasibility studies and implementation planning. ii) Operational Execution Perform hands-on test and support of payroll systems including Workday, eTime, Realtime, Payforce, and Global View. Ensure AGL’s EBA is correctly configured and maintained across all payroll platforms. Conduct comprehensive testing, change control, and support deployment activities for payroll system changes. Support incident management and root cause analysis for payroll system issues. Collaborate with integration teams to ensure seamless data flow between payroll, HR, and finance systems. Analyse payroll systems and processes to identify inefficiencies or areas for improvement. iii) Customer Service Engage with business stakeholders to understand needs and provide expert-level support. Manage vendor relationships and ensure delivery service aligns with contractual obligations. Provide timely and effective communication regarding system changes and issue resolutions. Collaborate with IT or vendors when needed to escalate complex issues. Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies or system errors quickly and accurately Provide clear, timely, and empathetic communication to resolve issues or explain system processes. iv) Compliance & Continuous Improvement Ensure payroll systems comply with Australian legislation and AGL policies. Drive continuous improvement initiatives across payroll and time systems. Monitor and validate system configurations to ensure compliance with AGL’s EBA. Deliver training sessions or documentation to help users understand payroll system functions. Support audits and compliance reporting. Ensure payroll data is accurate, secure, and compliant with legal and organizational standards Handle sensitive payroll matters with discretion, empathy, and professionalism What you’ll bring to the table Minimum 5 years experience with payroll systems processes and transformation within a large-scale, matrix organisation. Experience in functional role in Workforce Management (Kronos) and ERP system (preferably SAP). Solid understanding of industrial instruments, awards, and NES in relation to time & attendance and payroll platforms. Degree in Commerce, HR, or related discipline (desired) Six Sigma / Lean / Agile certification (desired) Strong relationship management with effective business partnering and influencing across complex and geographically dispersed organizational and management structures. Ability to think laterally, challenge the accepted norms and to continually look at driving change and improvements in payroll business processes. Collaborative, outcome focused and positive approach to change and issue management. Confident and professional communicator at all levels, both written and verbal.
