The Opportunity We’re looking for an experienced Training and Development Manager (TDM) to lead the end-to-end design, development, and maintenance of high-quality training programs and supporting materials. This role is pivotal in driving learning analysis, instructional design, and courseware development—ensuring our training aligns with organisational needs and technological advancements. As the TDM, you will oversee a broad range of learning and assessment activities, including defining training device functionality and coordinating the development and validation of assessment tools. You’ll also contribute to strategic planning and support the implementation of approved training enhancements, while preparing business cases for new courseware and emerging learning technologies. Key Responsibilities Lead and support the implementation of training projects from concept through to delivery Apply learning design and evaluation skills to develop engaging, compliant training materials Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to understand training needs and objectives Ensure the quality and consistency of all training outputs and documentation Use software and systems efficiently to support the development and delivery of courseware Stay up to date with current technologies and instructional design trends Incorporate feedback and review cycles to improve learning materials and ensure client satisfaction Prioritise competing tasks to meet project timelines and negotiated milestones Maintain accurate records, including personal timesheets and project documentation Produce high-quality, well-formatted documents that align with internal style and presentation standards Contribute to internal processes including quality assurance and document control Deliver overview and ad hoc training sessions as required Skills and Experience Proven ability to apply instructional design principles and practices to develop learning design solutions Create comprehensive and engaging storyboards Ensure all training outputs meet quality and compliance standards Experience incorporating client feedback into courseware development Capability to review and provide feedback on materials developed by other instructional designers Skilled in using emerging technologies to enhance learning delivery 3–5 years’ experience working in Defence training environments Sound knowledge of Defence Training Manual (DTM), Systems Approach to Defence Learning (SADL), Compliance and auditing standards Demonstrated experience in developing training governance documentation, including training packages, assessment tools, and validation processes Knowledge of training technology trends, including virtual technology for practical training Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40110 or equivalent) Eligibility for a Department of Defence security clearance (minimum Negative Vetting Level 1) Desirable Qualifications Undergraduate degree or equivalent practical experience in a relevant field Tertiary qualifications in vocational education and training (preferred) All candidates will be required to hold and maintain an active NV1 Defence Security Clearance.
